Marchant, Executive VP, General Counsel and CAO of Black
Entertainment Television (BET), to give luncheon keynote
address. BET, the leading media and entertainment company
targeted to African Americans, has pioneered an entire genre
in television, with its 24 hour programming which now reaches
more than 70 million U.S. homes and more than 90% of all Black
cable house- holds. BET exerts a strong influence on the music
industry, through its leading edge digital cable channels: BET
On Jazz, BET Hip-Hop, BET Classic Soul, BET Gospel and BET International,
which reaches subscribers in over 66 countries.
Mr. Marchant oversees legal affairs, satellite operations, telecommunications,
computer information systems and other operations for BET. He
has an extensive legal background in broadcasting and communications,
having served as Senior Legal Advisor to FCC Commissioner Andrew
Bartlett, Sr. VP and General Counsel for TeleCommunications
Systems Inc., and more recently, a partner with Patton Boggs
LLP. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Federal
Communications Bar Association. A Chicago native, he is a U.S.
Naval Academy graduate, and received his law degree from the
University of Virginia. |
